ACP Newsletter #3 2018

Dear Members,

The summer is in full swing and our work has intensified in the last period. Here we are giving you an overview of our activities.

The Poikovsky tournament, in its 19th year, saw another very successful edition. Full of fighting chess and exciting games we have our Premium Dmitry Jakovenko as a winner. The ACP wild card was Vladislav Kovalev, the winner of this year’s Aeroflot Open, who had a solid showing finishing on 50%.

Our cooperation with the Chess.com Isle of Man International is going from strength to strength. We will have 5 wild cards with 1500 GBP starting fee for the strongest open in the world. The recipients according to the ACP Tour Standings on March 31 and those for women according to the standings on May 31 are: GMs Kovalev, Liem, Sethuraman, Cramling and WGM Swaminathan.
Please note that two of our five spots were reserved for non-European players. In addition to this, the ACP will provide a special prize(s) for its players participating in the event. The details will be announced at a later stage. We would like to thank the organisers of the Chess.com Isle of Man International for the fruitful cooperation.

Talking about wild cards, we would like to use this opportunity to remind you of our wild cards for Tata Steel 2019 (both Masters and Challengers) that will be decided according to the ACP Tour standings on December 1, 2018.

The Gideon Japhet Memorial will include the strongest ever rapid event held in Israel as well as an ACP Open Chess Tournament. These are organised in cooperation with the ACP. The rapid event (Japhet Cup), taking place from 1-6 July in Jerusalem, will have a stellar field: Boris Gelfand, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Peter Svidler, Vassily Ivanchuk, Georg Meier and Anna Muzychuk. The field is entirely composed of our Premium members. You can find all the details on the official site.

A very important issue for the future of chess has been addressed in a letter we already distributed to our members. Our own ACP Board Director Yuri Garrett wrote a detailed account of ACC (Anti-Cheating Committee) and its functions. Please read this letter carefully as it can dramatically increase the awareness when it comes to the sensitive topic of cheating.

Wishing you the best,

The ACP Board
